The London & Southern Counties New Generation Croup held its second National Waste Management Career Progression Event at the offices of legal advisors, Denton Wilde Sapte on 29 April. Building on the positive feedback from last year's event, an equally impressive cast of presenters agreed to describe the respective roles their organisations played in the industry. Neil Thornton, director of environment quality and waste at Defra, kicked off the meeting to convince delegates that the waste management industry needs you. Thornton provided an overview of Defra's policy position and role in governance before describing why the sector needs more skilled professionals.
