Some years ago CIWM commissioned, from consultants SLR, a report entitled Lessons Learned From Europe. The aim of the report was to examine the different approaches used to facilitate the development of waste management infrastructure in some other EU member states. A detailed analysis of cultural, policy, planning and financial features was intended to show that the UK could learn from the experience of these countries and provide a basis for identifying the right mix of measures, to enable successful development of new facilities, to meet the requirements of EU legislation.
