It is important for any industry to develop new techniques and technologies to enable it to adapt to a changing world, and as this issue of CIWM shows, there is no shortage of innovation in today's waste management sector. However, this progress is not always easy to deliver on the ground: barriers to delivering projects always exist, but in the case of facilities using new technologies there can be seemingly insurmountable hurdles. Firstly, many new technologies are developed and brought to market by smaller companies.
