Local Authority Theatre

The first day in the Local Authority Theatre sets off with the theme of law and policy update, where visitors will be briefed on an update from Defra on UK implementation of the Waste Framework Directive, strategy and objectives and why it has defined commingling as complying with "separate" collection of waste. This will be followed by a panel debate, posing the questions: Does quality matter and is it necessary to create the highest quality recyclate when there is a market for aggregate? What do global export markets want and what are they willing to pay? How does price affect quality? Does commingling compromise the value of recycling and the value derived from recovered materials? Have collection and sorting technologies developed the capability to deal with this problem?
