More Than half of EU citizens do not think their household produces too much waste, and most have no idea how much food waste they generate, according to a Eurobarometer survey published last month. The survey, Attitudes of Europeans Towards Resource Efficiency, revealed a worrying lack of awareness about how much waste individual households generate: about 10 percent said they did not waste any of the food they purchased, while around 70 percent estimated that only 15 percent or less of the food they bought went to waste. According to a UK study by WRAP, however, 25 percent of food bought by households is thrown away, of which 60 percent is avoidable and, according to Eurostat, the average European citizen generates 513kg of municipal waste every year.
