The disposal of hazardous waste has always presented a number of technical and financial challenges. Whilst existing methods of disposal are effective at removing the risks associated with hazardous waste they often result in non-hazardous material - such as packaging - being disposed of with the hazardous fraction. This not only increases the cost of disposal but also removes valuable material from the recycling chain. Technology is increasingly being used to reduce the costs of hazardous waste disposal and recover material.
