Last year's winner of the ERM Energy Recovery Award, at the CIWM Awards, was Biffa IRM in association with Convert2Green. The winning project saw Biffa's Integrated Resource Management (IRM) team set up a collection agreement with biofuel producer Convert2Green (C2G) to take used cooking oil (UCO) from its customers for conversion into biodiesel. Biffa Municipal had previously trialled the use of biodiesel for some time, and as a result the two companies came together for a back-to-back supply deal. As a result of this, Biffa's municipal division now purchases the biodiesel produced from the UCO and uses it within the vehicle fleets that service two of its local authority contracts.
