When Go Plant took delivery of 15 new Johnston truck-mounted sweepers recently, part of the specification included the provision of Alison 3000 series automatic gearboxes on the DAF LF chassis as part of a programme to reduce fleet maintenance costs. "We've upgraded to the Allison automatic transmission to take advantage of the reduced life cycle costs and improved performance of the vehicle driveline provided by an automatic transmission,"explained Go Plant regional manager, Aiden Garvey. "The truck driveline inevitably suffers a high level of wear during road sweeping operations". Go Plant has switched to fully automatic gearboxes in an attempt to reduce the maintenance costs of the automated manual transmissions now fitted to many truck chassis - this recent order being part of a major fleet upgrade by Go Plant, involving 48 new units in the first quarter of 2015 alone.
