Nappy Waste: The Facts - Charles Warner, University of Northampton

Local authorities (LAs) within England are under pressure to progress waste management practice to meet enhanced targets for reuse, recycling and composting. To achieve this they need to focus on specific components of local authority collected waste (LACW) to further reduce solid waste to landfill. The disposable nappy (DN) is a significant identifiable product within the LACW stream, totalling approximately four percent of all waste to landfill in England. This is around 3bn units, weighing an estimated 690000 tonnes per annum, costing LAs over £60m in disposal costs.
