Arthur Kay was an architecture student at The Bartlett, University College London, when he first saw the potential in one urban waste stream. Set the task of designing a coffee shop and roastery, he quickly recognised that coffee was being wasted everywhere. Put simply, Arthur saw the opportunity to turn this waste into resources. With an estimated 50-75 percent of the world's population due to inhabit urban areas by 2050, building sustainable design solutions into existing processes is more important than ever, bio-bean, now a company of 25, has industrialised the process of recycling waste coffee grounds into advanced biofuels.
