Forward-thinking Select Environmental Services, based in Reading, has recently put two new Geesink Norba "hybrid" RCVs into service. Both the GPM-Ⅲ and flagship GPM-Ⅳ feature rechargeable lithium-ion battery packs to enable the vehicles to operate both the bin-lifters and the packer without the truck's diesel engine running. The Norba hybrid system allows the batteries to both be charged by the mains or, if required, while the vehicle is travelling between rounds, and is designed to last an entire shift without recharging being required.
