New Pompidou Museum Inspired by Chinese Hat

Thirty-one years after its opening in Paris, the Centre national d'art et de culture Georges Pompidou (Centre Pompidou) will be offering the public a branch outside of the capital city. Designed by architects Shigeru Ban, of Tokyo, and Jean de Gastines, of Paris, and by engineers in the London office of Arup, the new museum will be in the eastern French city of Metz. With a silhouette inspired by a Chinese hat, it will feature a curved timber roof structure whose unique structural support system will enable the roof to not just cover but also partially envelop the structures beneath it.
