Realtors Erect 'Green' Headquarters in Nation's Capital

In March 1791 Pierre Charles L'Enfant began to survey the land that would eventually become the nation's capital. To link such prominent sites as monuments, the Congress House (the U.S. Capitol's original name), and the Presidents House (the original name of the White House), L'Enfant designed a system of avenues that would diagonally intersect streets laid out in a conventional city grid. His design gave Washington a unique layout, and the distinctiveness has in no way been diminished by the passage of time.
