Indianapolis Unveils $1.8-Billion Plan to Reduce Overflows

As part of a plan announced in mid-July, the City of Indianapolis intends to significantly reduce sewage overflows within the next 20 years by constructing a deep tunnel to store untreated wastewater during wet-weather events. Combined with other improvements to the city's collection system and its two wastewater treatment plants (wwtps), the $1.8-billion plan is expected to eliminate overflows to area waterways during all but the largest storms.
