Study Calls Canal 'best' Option For Managing California's Delta Water

A canal that would bypass the delta region at the confluence of the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers, about 50 mi (80 km) upstream of San Francisco Bay, is the "best" option for managing the region's water supplies, especially the water that is exported from northern California's watersheds to "two-thirds of the state's households and millions of acres of southern Central Valley farmlands," according to Comparing Futures for the Sacramento-Sanjoaquin Delta, a report produced by the Public Policy Institute of California (ppic).
