Report Warns U.S. Economy Depends on Transportation Infrastructure and Land Use Planning

A new report, Infrastructure 2008: A Competitive Advantage, warns that the United States must quickly develop new approaches to its transportation infrastructure and land use planning or risk ending up as one of the "losers" in a reordered global economy. Published jointly by the Urban Land Institute (uli), of Washington, D.C., and the international accounting and professional services firm Ernst & Young, the report sees 2008 as "a critical juncture in a rapidly changing economic environment." As the report puts it, the need for action is urgent: "It's time to ante up or fall behind."
