As part of its efforts to combat seawater intrusion,rnensure adequate water for irrigation, and reducerndemand for groundwater, the Monterey CountyrnWater Resources Agency recently constructed thernSalinas River Diversion Facility. However, beforernconstruction work could begin on the diversionrndam, the design had to address importantrngeotechnical concerns, including the presence ofrnloose, liquefiable soils with significant scourrnpotential. The site required special foundationrndesigns and remedial measures to ensure structural stability under seismic and flood loads.
