Spanning the Delaware River, the Walt Whitman Bridge serves as a vital link joining southern New Jersey and Philadelphia, and each day it sees an average of 120,000 vehicles. With so many people relying on the bridge, closing it down for repairs is simply not an option. So in 2011, as crews begin replacing the deck on the bridge's suspension spans, which total 3,540 ft, the work will have to be done without significantly obstructing traffic flow. The solution: take it one lane at a time.
