OR THE SECOND TIME in a year there is news that civil engineering is among the top professions in the country with respect to growth potential and pay. First, the November 2010 issue of CNN's magazine Money reported that of the top 100 jobs deemed best in terms of pay and growth prospects, civil engineering and environmental engineering ranked respectively sixth and fifth. (See "Civil, Environmen- tal, Transportation, and Structural Engineering among Best Jobs in the Nation, Money Says," Civil Engineering, January 2011, page 32.) And now a report issued in late May by Georgetown University's Center on Education and the Workforce indicates that civil engineering majors—especially those who go on to attain graduate degrees—are among those earning the best incomes in the coun- try. (See "Civil Engineering Degree Confers Median Earnings of $78,000, Report Says," Civil Engineering, this issue, page 24.) This is good news indeed and comes at a very good time.
