The Term "historicpreservation" is broadly defined as the act of protecting and preserving historic buildings, bridges, landscapes, sites, and objects. In developed nations, historic preservation is grounded in legislation stipulating that, in the interest of conserving a nations heritage, the historic built environment and other historic resources should be safeguarded. However, not all historic fabric can be preserved by conventional means. A recent case in point is the dramatic restoration of the Cutty Sark, the last of Britain's intact clipper ships-trade ships notable for their remarkable speed en route from Britain to Asia-and as such among Britain's most cherished maritime artifacts.
