These articles are usually accompanied by a picture of a projector which most Cinema Technology readers will recognise as the BTH SUPA (Mark 2), shown as the left-hand picture in this issue, with the even more elephantine Mark 1 on the right, and the more knowledgeable ones will know that the acronym stood for Single Unit Projection Assembly. When the SUPA projector made its debut during the immediate post-war years, any hyped-up enthusiasm which BTH cinema engineers might have engendered for this new equipment quickly turned to derision and disappointment. The general consensus was that this new concept in projection engineering had been designed by a committee and that the SUPA machine had turned out looking more pachyderm than projector.
