We report a rare association between the use of ri- fampicin and the development of pseudomembranous colitis. The diarrhoea promptly responded to oral vancomycin and the Withdrawal of antituberculous medications. The ling latency Between the administration of rifampicin and the onset of dis- Ease was an atypical feature of pseudomembranous colitis. Pseudomembrnous colitis (PMC) has been associated With a lot of antimicrobial agents. However, antituberculous Chemotherapy is usually thought to be immune. Only a few Case reports have suggested a possible role of rifampicin in Provoking PMC, 1-5 but the picture is complicated by the Use of other antibiotics and the coexisting medical illness. We repot a case of PMC induced by rifampicin without the above mentioned confounding factors.
