Hypoxia plays a fundamental role in many pathologic processes. Hypoxia-inducible factor-1 ( HIF-1) is a heterodimeric basic helix-loop-helix-per-aryl hydrocarbon receptor ARNT-sim ( PAS) domain protein , consisting of a and β subunits and is precisely regulated by cellular oxygen levels. The peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors ( PPARs) are family nuclear hormone-binding proteins with increasing diverse functions as transcriptional regulators, owning three subtypes (α, β, and γ). PPARα plays a critical physiological role as lipid sensors and regulators of proliferation. Hypoxia can elicit up-regulation of PPAR-α expression. Herein, we report the results of an investigation on the correlation of HIF-1α and PPARα.
