Optical limiting properties of methano [60] fullerene and pyrrolidion [60] fullerene derivatives in room-temperature solutions are studied systematically. The results show that the derivatives are very similar to the parent [60] fullerene in optical limiting, despite the fact that the linear absorption and emission properties of the derivatives are very different from those of [60] fullerene. The optical limiting properties of the [60] fullerene derivatives are discussed in the context of nonlinear optical effects due to reverse saturable absorption.
