Keväällä 1996 toteutettiin kahden espoolaiskoulun välillä uudenlainen yhteistyöhanke, jossa joukko Olarin lukion oppilaita opetti kahtena päivänä kemiaa Päivänkehrän koulun viidesluokkalaisille. Projektin tarkoituksena oli motivoida ala-asteen oppilaita luonnontieteiden opiskeluun ja monipuolistaa Olarin matemaattis-luon-nontieteellisen erikoislukion toimintamuotoja. Tuloksena oli sekä isojen että pienten oppilaiden mieliin jäänyt hauska ja innostava kokemus sekä aimo annos kemiaa - oikea kemian opetuksen riemujuhla.%Olari Upper Secondary School in Espoo offers a general upper secondary curriculum and a curriculum with enrichment in science and mathematics. In spring 1996 a group of students specializing in chemistry conducted a two-day workshop for pupils (5th grade) at a nearby elementary school, with the aim of encouraging the children to study science, observe natural phenomena and do experiments on their own. It was a great challenge for the upper secondary students to instruct younger children. The experiences were also highly positive, and the elementary pupils expressed their willingness to begin studies in chemistry as early as the 4th or 5th grade. The children's knowledge of chemistry and environmental matters amazed the older students, and all parties expressed their willingness to participate in similar projects in the future.
