EPA Asks Advisory Panel to Review Atrazine's Recent Health Effects Data

EPA will review the widely used herbicide atrazine for possible adverse human health effects, a move that manufacturer Syngenta says it is part of the normal course of a pesticide's re-registration. The herbicide is due for re-registration in 2013, and it is not unusual for EPA to request science advisory panel meetings to review recent data as part of that process, says Timothy Pastoor, principal scientist at Syngenta, the US's largest atrazine producer. EPA say a comprehensive review of the atrazine is aimed at determining if its current standard is adequate.
