Bayer Boosted by New Agchems; Ponders Environmental Science

Bayer CropScience says it will continue to expand its sales generated by newly developed active ingredients and that prospects for the company's development pipeline are better than previously forecast. Speaking at its annual press conference, held recently at Monheim, Germany, Bayer CropScience chairman Friedrich Berschauer said that the company has one of the largest R&D budgets in the industry, spending on average E650 million/year ($952.2 million) covering all of its three segments: crop protection, bioscience, and environmental science. Bayer CropScience estimates that the global agchems market will row 3%/year, to E56.3 billion in 2013 and E66 billion in 2018. Separately, Bayer CropScience will examine the future of the environmental science business, which is showing relatively slow growth, Berschauer said.
