Demonstrations for teaching laboratory safety

Demonstrations enhance the ability of students to understand scientific concepts including laboratory safety principles. Safety demonstrations, by their very nature, relate to hazards in the laboratory. It is imperative that the demonstrator practice the demonstrations several times in advance and take all the necessary precautions. We feel that efforts of incorporating demonstrations in our laboratory safety courses have been fruitful in making our students more "safety-conscious".
