Modules Aim To Add Multicultural Dimension To College Chemistry

Two community college chemistry teachers in California have embarked on a project aimed at making general and introductory chemistry more tangible to college students of different ethnic backgrounds. Janan M. Hayes, professor of chemistry and physical science at Merced College, Merced, Calif., and Patricia L. Perez, professor of chemistry at Mt. San Antonio Community College District, Walnut, Calif., described "Project Inclusion" to a symposium on using the history of chemistry to teach chemistry at the American Chemical Society's national meeting in New Orleans last month. The symposium was sponsored by the Division of Chemical Education.
