NEW CEFIC LOOKS EAST

Enlargement -of the euro pean Union (EU) and of the NorthAtlantic TreatyOrganiza- tion-is the major item of dis- cussion these days in Europe. The topic also appeared at the annual assembly meeting of the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC), held earlier this month in Helsinki. But CEFIC has gone one step further than the politicians. While government officials have argued about extending membership to various countries in Central and Eastern Europe, CEFIC's assembly has done it.
