Thiopyrimidine pairs in DNA duplexes were unexpectedly largely stabilized by complexation with two equivalents of Ag(Ⅰ) ions and their binding properties were evaluated. The metal ion-binding properties of the thiopyrimidine base pairs differed significantly from those of unpaired bases.
