摘要

Hydrated ionic liquids, exhibiting cold crystallisation behaviour of water molecules in a certain range of water contents, successfully dissolved cytochrome c maintaining the original spin state of heme. Use of ionic liquids (ILs) as solvents for biomolecules has significant meaning for the application in bioscience and biotechnology as a result of their negligible vapour pressure, low flammability, high ionic conductivity, and both chemical and thermal stability. Biomolecules are currently handled practically and controlled in aqueous buffer solutions, but these are not stable enough for many practical applications.
