Making Jobs Good

In earlier research,we documented a substantial decline over the past three decades in the share of "good jobs" in the U.S. economy (Schmitt 2008; Schmitt and Jones 2012a, 2012b). This falloff in job quality took place despite a large increase in the educational attainment and age of the workforce, as well as the productivity of the average U.S. worker (Baker 2007; Baker and Rosnick 2007; Mishel, Bivens, Gould, and Shierholz 2012).
