Since its inception in 1965, Medicaid has been a broken program, underfunded and festooned with red tape by the 50 states charged with administering the program. Illinois's dental Medicaid is the poster child for bad programs. According to figures from the American Dental Association, our state has the fifth largest economy in the United States, but is dead last in Medicaid reimbursement to dentists; the reimbursement for a crown in Illinois is $235. In Connecticut, it's $805.
