ACMG FORECASTS SLOWER GROWTH FOR INTERNATIONAL EXPRESS

In its first formal analysis of the global air freight and express industry in 1992, Air Cargo Management Group (ACMG) found that the world's airlines handled 541,400 daily shipments which represented a modest 4.42% share of the total tonnage of international air freight. ACMG now estimates that 1.734 million international express shipments are currently being handled each day. This figure is more than triple the 1992 total, and represents an average annual increase of 11.2% (see accompanying chart). Furthermore, given an increase in the average weight per express shipment that has taken place since the early 1990s, ACMG concludes that express traffic now represents 10.5% of the tonnage of international air freight carried by the world's airlines. ACMG calls the ever-greater influence of the integrated express companies in the international marketplace the most important trend it has found in its on-going analysis of the global air freight market.
