UPS SEES US PACKAGE VOLUMES JUMP IN THE THIRD QUARTER

UPS reported third-quarter net income down 56.3% y-o-y to $469 million, as total revenues declined 0.7% to $13.07 billion. Operating profit for the quarter was down 54.0% to $766 million. The big drops in net income and operating profit were the result of an $896 million pre-tax charge "from the withdrawal liability associated with restructuring a multi -employer pension plan" in the company's US Domestic Package segment.
