Europe's five largest mobile network operator groups are deeply divided over proposed options for giving the SIM card a high-speed interface, creating a deadlock among standards makers at a meeting in late January. They are expected to try again to reach agreement this month. The new interface would dramatically increase the speed at which subscribers can download anything from text messages and photos to games and videos from their handsets to their SIMs.
