While we take for granted our bright rear lights on the back of our vehicles, its interesting to see that it was not until October 1 st, 1956 that it then became law to have two rear lights on vehicles as pointed out by Remax Ltd., Remax House, Alfred Place, London WC1 who were promoting their rear light units product -plus a free windscreen washer system. They were then offering two types - one standard and the other with a 'wedge rubber' (as in it's base its assumed as no explanation is provided in the advert) priced at 33/- (£1.70 today) and 35/-(£1.75 today) per pair in each case respectively. They also included a cut-out voucher to the value of 12/6 (65p today) as part payment. Being winter-time there were assorted adverts of the day promoting antifreeze and one such campaign was Syncol Anti-Freeze as manufactured by Synthite Ltd., West Bromwich, Staffs and according to the advert it was 'inhibited to DTD779'. While it gave a list of qualities it had, plus included a case of a doctor(?) as being 'the type of man who must have Syncol Anti-Freeze (and why)'. No prices were quoted.
