ROVER 25 RUBBING REAR BRAKES

When the owner of this 2001 Rover 25 complained of sticking rear brakes, we expected the problem to be with the handbrake levers on the brake calipers. Very often we find that the handbrake cable on these vehicles gets over adjusted and the levers don't cover their full travel. They then begin to seize, leaving the brake sticking on. The levers on this little motor were fine and were moving freely. Removing the calipers, we could see that the piston boots were perished and it was in fact the brake caliper pistons that were sticking. The only way to cure the problem was to fit a couple of new calipers and a new set of rear brake pads.
