A customer came in complaining that she was having difficulty selecting gear on her 2000 VW Polo. Having covered only around 12,000 miles on the present clutch, which had been replaced two years previously, the owner was incredulous that her careful driving could have worn out the unit already. Our first check revealed that the cable clutch could have been in need of a slight adjustment. A further check led us to find that the pedal had a springy feel when operating the clutch.
