CROMFORD STEPS FOWARDS

The friends of the Cromford Canal have taken an important step towards complete restoration - while their supporters are taking a lot of smaller steps forward!rnCounty council elections this summer brought the Conservatives to power in Derbyshire, with a commitment to creating a Cromford Canal Partnership - and with the council the major landowner on the canal, this is seen as very important. Patrick Morriss, Chairman of the Friends, believes it paves the way for the full feasibility study which will turn their very rough estimate of £57m into a detailed costing and plan for full reopening from Langley Mill to Cromford and Pinxton. That is still very much in the future, but the Big Lottery Fund is seen as one possible source of funds.
