The WILTS & BERKS Canal Trust has uncovered the remains of one of the canal's distinctive lift-bridges, and hopes to eventually restore it to working order. Many canals used swing-bridges or lift-bridges as a way of saving on construction costs, and they were a feature of the Wilts & Berks with a number of spread out along the canal's length. However in the century since it closed, the wooden decks have disappeared and the brick abutments have crumbled.
