Proposals by british Waterways for Limehouse Lock could see opening hours at the entrance from the Thames tideway to the Regents Canal cut drastically. The changes, which result from a 'drive by BW to improve our efficiencies' include a requirement to book ahead, a reduction in availability outside normal hours for pre-booked passages, and the introduction of out-of-hours charges.rnRoger Squires of The Inland Waterways Association described the proposals as "not acceptable" at a "key entry point to the canal system". He proposed that BW could instead save money by reducing staff from two to one, as the newly installed pontoon moorings mean it is no longer necessary to simultaneously operate the lock and the adjacent swingbridge.
