Five years ago the Wey & Arun Canal Trust, buoyed by its success in raising £1/2m to build a new aqueduct at Loxwood but frustrated at the protracted negotiations to extend the restored navigable length southwards, decided to take the bull by the horns. The Trust put the plans for the route south of Loxwood on hold, and instead committed itself to a £1.5m scheme to remove the B2133 main road blockage and open up the canal heading northwards from Sussex towards Surrey and the River Wey.
