This paper presents how Surrey County Council (SCC) refurbished a Grade II listed cast-iron bridge. It highlights the history of the bridge, the importance of the bridge in term of its uniqueness and position in the road network of the county. The paper also covers the result of the live load assessment carried out on the bridge, the various remedial options considered, and the many organisations / bodies consulted as mandated by statue or goodwill. The paper also describes the refurbishment work that was carried out together with comments received from the stakeholders.
