摘要

The 220-mile long River Severn is Britain's longest river. It begins its life in a marsh high in the Welsh mountains on Plynlimon, descends through eastern Wales into the Shropshire plain passing through Shrewsbury, Ironbridge and Worcester, becomes tidal below Gloucester, and eventually its estuary widens out to form the Bristol Channel. The estuary is famous for the tidal wave known as the Severn Bore which can reverse the flow of the river back upstream to well above Gloucester.
