A Participant In British Waterways' annual wildlife survey has made a rare a sighting that sheds a whole new light on illuminating towpaths.rnSue Rickard, from Hertfordshire, spotted glow worms lighting vegetation on the Grand Union near Hemel Hempstead.rn"I didn't think I'd spot something as unusual as a glow worm on therncanal," she said. "I had seen reports from the 70s that there used to be glow worms in this area, but I didn't expect to see them today. They were a magical sight." As well as tellingrnBW, Sue reported her sighting to the UK Glow Worm Survey team. Robin Scargell, from the team, said: "We get very few reports of glow worm sightings alongside canals, so it's interesting to hear about this one."
