SWALLOWTAILS SWOOPING BACK

Fifteen Years Of Fenland management has seen the first increase in the rare swallowtail butterfly for nearly a century.rnThis year large numbers of swallowtails, Britain's largest butterfly with a 9cm wingspan, have been seen at How Hill National Nature Reserve, Norfolk Wildlife Trust's Hickling Broad and The RSPB's Strumpshaw Fen from late May until early July.rnA rare second brood extended thernswallowtail season into August. The butterflies were once widespread across the UK but they are now concentrated in the Broads, although attempts have been made to reintroduce them at Wicken Fen near the Great Ouse in Cambridgeshire.
