Senior British Waterways managers faced customers at a questions-and-answers session. Marketing Director Simon Salem set the scene by warning that we were living in 'interesting times' with funding cuts expected. He then threw the session open to the audience who responded with questions on living afloat, controlling overstaying on visitor moorings (BW says it's next on the list now licensing evasion is coming down); whether combining with other navigation authorities would save cash (BW has no remit to lobby for it, but the Government is looking into the idea) and BW's plans to turn itself into a charity (still on the table after the election result). Finally, asked 'what can we do to help the canals', BW suggested getting involved with local authorities, many of whom 'just don't understand the waterways'.
