The uttoxeter canal restoration could be in line for significant funding following conditional approval of a £2m Lottery funding package for a whole range of conservation projects.rnThe Heritage Lottery Fund's £17m Landscape Partnership programme aims to 'help communities look after their landscapes' and supports schemes providing long-term social, economic and environmental benefits for rural areas. Ten schemes have been given a Stage 1 pass, including the Staffordshire Moorlands which covers much of the Churnet Valley, through which the Caldon Canal and its abandoned extension the Uttoxeter Canal run. This not only implies approval in principle for the full £2m, but also brings £100,000 of initialrndevelopment funding.
